What are Expected Assists (xA)?

Expected assists (xA) measure the chance quality of the shots a player sets up.

A cut-back to the six-yard box is worth more xA than a hopeful cross. The number shows creation even when the teammate misses the chance. Add xA to expected goals (xG) and you get expected goal involvement (xGI).
